THE TL;DR
Improving how litigation teams review, code, and synthesize large volumes of case documents
The purpose of litigation is to hold a person or party responsible who has committed some form of wrongdoing, or in some cases to keep the world safe in one way or another. But starting at the beginning, once a case is opened, what happens next?
It all starts with data. These days, with the immense amounts of data involved in a litigation case, there can be upwards of thousands or tens of thousands documents (or more) that a legal team needs to review for any given case. This data might be present in the form of the emails (e.g. the Gmail account and all of its emails belonging to person being sued), relevant Word documents, PDFs, photos, spreadsheets -- the list goes on. You name it, someone on a legal team probably has to look at it to determine whether or not it's relevant to the case in question.
So, with the sheer volume of stuff (read: data) that law firms and their reviewing teams have to sift through to begin making decisions about their case, how might we make this reviewing experience more seamless and efficient?
